Scale Up opportunities in the food and beverage sector

With Australia’s food and beverage sector set to double in the next 10 years, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is joining forces with the City of Canning and Triangle Equity Partners to deliver ScaleUp WA, a nine-week purpose built program aimed at food value-adding businesses with high growth potential.

“The City of Canning is one of the most diverse economic hubs in WA with a gross regional product of $11.2 billion, almost 4 per cent of the State’s GSP and a net employer of the Perth metro area with more than 45,000 people. ScaleUp as part of the City of Canning’s business mentoring program will facilitate connections between an increasing network of food related businesses across Canning and Perth metro.” said Mayor Patrick Hall

Canning will provide three fully-funded scholarships to local businesses living or operating in the City as part of its annual business mentoring program. Previous recipients of the program include Kommunity Brew and Dinner Twist, with founder Chris Tristand saying, “The Canning Business Mentoring Program enabled Dinner Twist to set the strategy to be competitive and give customers the best possible experience.”

DPIRD’s support of food and beverage manufacturers has enabled businesses to access industry experts and transformative initiatives that help overcome potential barriers to growth and reduce risks as well as capture new areas of expansion. DPIRD will fund 50 percent of the program costs for six mentees.

“The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is proud to support City of Canning and Triangle Equity Partners to deliver ScaleUpWA to encourage the growth of businesses in the food-value adding sector, a priority focus for the WA Government,” said the Department’s Executive Director of Agribusiness, Food and Trade, Susan Hall.

“This program really highlights the transformative opportunities for SMEs to get scale, create and capture value, and get positioned for harvestable returns and/or capital gains,” said Triangle Equity Partner’s Greg Riebe.

ScaleUp WA focuses on the diversification and development of the food value adding industries and kicks off in June this year. Applications are open and close 5pm, 7 May, 2022.
